Opening of the Anniversary Year

The Anniversary Year of Comenius opened successfully on 8 March 2011. Over 100 participants came to a joint presentation of the legal philosopher René Foqué and actor Gijs Scholten van Aschat, known for his role in e.g. Tirza, to celebrate the 15^th year in our existence. They talked about our relation to time and the importance of reflection and imagination for autonomous and responsible action. In the presentation the philosophical reflections of professor Foqué were interrupted by creative intermezzos performed by Gijs Scholten van Aschat. His contributions included e.g. fragments from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and poems by Fernando Pessoa. After the presentation there was more than sufficient time to renew acquaintances and meet new people while enjoying snacks and drinks some jazz music.
